Hiking route along the Baltic sea coastline in Latvia - Estonia
asnate@celotajs.lv
The objective of the project was to develop a hiking tourism route along the Baltic sea coastline in Estonia and Latvia - Baltic Coastal Hiking.
The route stretches along the Southwest coastline in Latvia, starting from the border with Lithuania and through Latvia to Laane county region in Estonia, including the Estonian islands as a side attraction.
Route description introduces tourist attractions – sites and objects of natural and cultural significance bring out the stories related to these objects. The stories will create interest to visit the area and are added to the marketing portfolio of the destinations.
The product fits into the European long-distance hiking network as part of the route E9.
The Baltic Coastal Hiking route is a sustainable tourism product highlighting cultural and natural heritage along the coastline, friendly to nature, cultural environment, and local economy. It will diversify the use of natural and cultural heritage in coastal areas opening the coastal nature sites and villages to a new segment of tourists - the hiking tourists.
The project contributes to the implementation of the EUSBSR policy area "Tourism - Reinforcing cohesiveness of the macro-region through tourism" and the achievement of the EUSBSR objective "Connect the region".
The project has been awarded the label of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 and the label is being used in events and communications throughout 2018.
